Don’t waste your voice or your tone!  The more you use increase the volume or sternness in your voice, the more it loses it’s shock value in important moments when you need it.

Also think of it this way: Think about who the dog listens to most in the house when they're in trouble.  Usually it's whoever's voice is loudest and sternest.

So however loud and stern THAT PERSON IS, is how loud and stern ANYONE IN THE HOUSE has to be to get the dog to listen right now.
